Welcome
to Year 2

Mrs May
Mrs Whelan
Hello and welcome to Creative Crocodiles. This year you will have two teachers Mrs May and Mrs Whelan and we are both looking forward to the year ahead. We can’t wait to start our new learning journey with you and have lots of exciting things planned.
Meet your teachers
Mrs may
My name is Mrs May and I will be teaching you on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Some of you already know me as I have been your Y1 teacher and I am excited to be able to continue your learning journey with you and to meet our new class members.
I have taught at Sandhill for over 20 years and have taught many of your parents! I have two boys and two guinea pigs. When I am not at school, I like to spend time with my family and friends. I enjoy going to the theatre, watching sports and going out for meals.
Mrs Whelan
Hello Creative Crocodiles, my name is Mrs Whelan and I am going to be teaching you on a Monday, Tuesday and a Wednesday.
I have six amazing children and three beautiful granddaughters. I love anything that sparkles or is glittery, and flamingos are my favourite animals! Outside of school I love reading, baking and playing board games. I already know some of your families as I have taught your siblings! For those families that I don’t already know, I am looking forward to getting to know you!
Meet your teaching assistants

Class Information
The school day starts at 8:45am, but the register will be closed at 9am. We will reward you with Dojo points for being on time and in school every day, as well as using the Sandhill Ways.
You will also get team points for working as a team, participating in your learning and contributing during lessons. Your Class Dojo name is Creative Crocodiles and we will post on there when your PE days are. We will also use this to post class updates and share what we have been learning.
We would also like you to come to school every day in your uniform. The school day ends at 3.15pm.
Areas of Learning
In Year 1/2 the children will continue to develop and learn in the Key Stage 1 curriculum, developing further skills and knowledge to become more independent and resilient. We will focus on early reading and phonic skills and would really appreciate if you could support this at home too.
In geography we will begin by studying the area local to school and then investigating the Arctic and finally, the British seaside!
In Science, we will be learning how to be scientists and develop our enquiry skills by observing carefully, measuring and asking questions about things that interest us. We will learn all about plants and animals in their habitats, the earth and space and about the human body.
You will also get to spend time with the WPT sports coaches who will teach you lots of different skills in PE.
In computing you will begin to learn how to write basic codes and how to keep safe when using the internet. There will so much more to enjoy learning alongside these subjects, as well as getting really confident in reading, writing and maths. We can’t wait to start your learning journey with you.
