In the spring term, our learning will include….
English
This half term the children will be learning how to write an advert using advertisement techniques, write a set of instructions and writing an explanation for the digestive system.
History
This half term the children will be learning about the chronology from the Romans to the , introduction of coal and how coal mining changed over time. This will include a visit to the Yorkshire Coal Mining Museum. They will learn about the development of coal, how coal is formed and what it would have been like to work in a mine. The children will also make links to local mines and mining families. (If you or any family members worked down a mine, it would be really lovely if you could come into school (covid permitting) and share your experiences with the children)
Geography
This half term the children will be learning about the human and physical features of Rawmarsh, energy sources in Rawmarsh, that there are 8 types of energy sources, how Rawmarsh was developed by humans for the coal mining industry and how jobs influenced the human characteristics.
Science
This half term the children will be learning about the digestive system and how it works. They will learn why humans and animals need food, what a healthy meal looks like and why it is important to keep healthy. They will also learn about teeth and how to keep your teeth clean.
Art
This half term the children are learning about Anthony Gormley and how manipulated different materials to build his structures. The children will use some of his ideas to build a statue of a human. They will then take these skills and use them to create a school sculpture of children for our new outdoor classroom.
DT
The children are learning to analyse and create a food product using texture, taste, smell and appearance. The children will then design a pizza that will appeal to a specific group of people.
RE
In RE children will be learning about the Muslim religion, people who influence us and what makes a good leader.
PSHE
The children are learning what to do if they witness bullying and why some people don’t tell. They are also learning what is special about them.
Every child will be given a chrome book in order to access our computing session, which will be delivered by a Trust Computing specialist. In addition to this, we will also have a MFL specialist delivering online sessions for French. We recommend bringing your PE kit on a Monday and leaving it at school for the whole week. We will remind you to take it home on Fridays too!
We will be having swimming lessons on Monday and Thursday for 8 weeks. Children must have a swimming hat and a towel.
Year 4 are also going on a residential to Sherwood Forest where the children will learn to work together as a team, socialise with each other and learn independence.
