Parent Governor Vacancy

Wed 11th Oct, 2017

As part of our school improvement plans, we are looking to return to a local governing body in the school as the Interim Improvement Board steps down. These are very exciting times for our school as we look to drive our development forward into its next phase.

What are we looking for?

Our school Local Governing Body (LGB) is made up of Governors and education professionals from all walks of life. Many come to us through a variety of routes and with a range of different backgrounds, skills and experiences, but they are ALL volunteers who work together for the benefit of your school and your children. They provide a valuable link between the school and the community it serves.

We want you –

We are currently looking for up to three new Parent Governors and would be delighted to hear from anyone who has:

  • an interest in the outcomes of the school
  • a desire to contribute to and represent the local community
  • an open and enquiring mind
  • the ability to look at issues objectively
  • the confidence to ask questions
  • a willingness to listen and form carefully considered judgements for the benefit of all
  • the ability to work well with others
  • a child or children currently attending the School

If you match the above description, you may be the very person to become a Governor at Rawmarsh Sandhill Primary School. We believe everyone has something to offer and we want people with as wide a range of interests as possible to join us.

What can we offer?

  • A chance to develop your own personal skills and the opportunity ‘make a difference’
  • The opportunity to work alongside our team of governors and staff in improving your children’s school
  • The pleasure of helping all children reach their full potential

What is the Governing Body’s Role?

The Governing Body of your school plays a key role in:

  • raising standards of educational attainment and progress
  • hold the headteacher to account for the performance of your school
  • shape policy and future development plans
  • represent the ‘voice’ of the community

As well as attending meetings governors are also asked to look at specific areas of the school’s work in more detail.

To help support governors, everyone has access to further training to help build on existing skills or to develop new ones.

If you are interested, please complete the attached ‘Nomination form’ with a brief description about yourself and why you would like to join the governing body, and return this to Dawn Butterworth, Clerk to Local Governing Body, at email dawnbutterworth@talktalk.net OR return the ‘Nomination form’ to Mrs. Simpson in the school office. Forms to be returned by 27th October 2017.

Please note that depending on the number of applications there may be an election process, which will be advised in due course.

You can download the nomination form here as well as the vacancy advert.
