Hello! Welcome to Miss Charles’ class. I hope you are ready for a fun and busy Spring Term! We can’t wait to get going!

Meet your Teachers

Hello, my name is Miss Charles and I am the teacher in Foundation Stage Two.

I cannot wait to see how your imaginations come alive in the FS2 classroom and how you all learn and grow during the school year. In my spare time I like reading, walking my Dutch Shepherd dog and in the summer, going out for bike rides.

Our New Learning

During the first half of the Spring term we will be covering a topic called Winter Weatherland. We will be monitoring the weather, in particularly looking out for snow and ice! In science will be discussing what happens to the water when there is a change in temperature. We will also be looking at different habitats for animals and learning which animals hibernate over winter. In art we will be looking at winter scenes by the artist Monet and producing our own. Towards the end of the half term we will be discussing day and night and comparing dark and light.

In literacy we will be writing about the weather and linking our learning to a range of books such as Charlie and Lola completely love winter, Flora’s Very Windy Day and Whatever Next. In writing the children should be able to hear at least initial and end sounds to begin writing sentences. We are working on remembering to use finger spaces and a full stop at the end of a sentence.

In Maths we will be moving on to numbers 6-10. With these we will compare numbers, compare amounts, make pairs and learn number bonds to 10. We will also dive into more detail on mass and capacity as well as length, height, time and 3D shapes.

Class Information

You enter the classroom via the door on the front of the Foundation Stage building. We encourage the children to be as independent as possible. At this point in the year the children should be able to say goodbye to their grownup at the door, bring all of their things into school and organise themselves. The door opens at 8.45 and will close just before the register at 9am. If the children arrive after 9am they need to enter school via the main entrance and will be given a late mark. Children order their dinner alongside the register, always given the choice of a hot dinner, jacket potato or sandwich.

Children need to bring a water bottle to school containing water only. Please make sure your child’s name is written in ALL of their school uniform including coats.

PE: PE is on a Monday in FS2. On a Monday children need to come to school in black shorts/ joggers, a white t-shirt, a dark jumper/ jacket and trainers.

Reading: Children need to bring their yellow reading record, school reading book and phonics book to school on a Wednesday. On this day they will read with an adult and change their reading book. Their book will only be changed if they have read at home.
